Report workplace health & safety (WHS) concerns.

You have a right to feel physically and psychologically safe at work.

Strippers, whether they are employees or independent contractors, are covered by the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (the WHS Act) as well as any relevant state and territory WHS legislation.

This means that you have a right to operate in a safe and healthy work environment and that there are provisions under the WHS Act that protect you when raising WHS concerns.

This includes workers in venues as well as engaged in agency-led work.

Examples of WHS concerns may include:

  • Physical environment inc. stage, toilets, stairs, elevators, travel, etc

  • Alcohol and/or other substances

  • Expectation to perform promotional work

  • Bullying

  • Sexual assault

  • etc.

See information below on how to get assistance with reporting concerns to the appropriate regulator or see our Services page if you are considering taking further legal action (coming soon).

General: Report your WHS concerns to SafeWorkSA.

In the instance that you wish to enquire about or report public health concerns, such, as smoking or vaping inside a venue, these reports need to be directed to SA Health.

Unsure or need help? Report concerns to MEAA

Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) is the trade union that represents all strippers in Australia.

SASH has worked closely with MEAA for 2+ years to ensure that strippers are adequately informed and supported.

MEAA can provide advice and assistance when raising concerns or filing reports about working conditions.

MEAA members have greater access to protections and support (including legal) however, you do not need to be a member to contact MEAA and obtain general advice/assistance. You are also welcome to contact us to enquire on your behalf.

FAQ: Am I protected if I raise a workplace concern?

You have a right to raise WHS complaints without adverse action. This includes with your management, colleagues, other staff and external institutions and organisations and also includes incidences of assault.

FAQ: Does it matter how I raise my concerns?

In short, yes.

Please note, whilst provisions are in place to protect you when raising a workplace health and safety concern, it is important to still be mindful of the manner in which you do so (for your own protection). For example, this means not doing so in a manner that might be considered harassment or abuse.

For more information, please contact us or MEAA.
